This means that unfortunately many of your Windows applications may not work using Windows 11 on an M1 Mac unless they are ARM compatible. Windows ARM is very similar the standard version of Windows but is compatible with less software as it only works with ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) chips. It’s not yet possible to run the standard x86 version of Windows 11 like you can on Intel Macs although it’s likely that Parallels will add support for this eventually. You can run Windows 11 on M1 Macs using Parallels 17 but it’s important to be aware that you can only run the Insider Preview version of Windows 11 for ARM on M1 Macs. However, Parallels can cleverly emulate the TPM module on M1 Macs allowing you to run Windows 11.

Can You Install Windows 11 on M1 Macs?Īs already mentioned, Windows 11 requires a physical TPM chip and the M1 Mac equivalent is Apple’s T2 chip. It will also be very difficult to apply updates to unofficial installations of Windows 11 on a Mac so we strongly advise against it. However, we do not recommended these as they’re not officially supported and are likely to be broken by updates to Windows 11 or macOS in the future.

Parallels costs $80 for home users although existing users can upgrade for $50 to the latest version which can install Windows 11 on a Mac.īe warned that there are some websites that have published workarounds to install Windows 11 on a Mac that bypass the TPM requirement by using a modified ISO image of Windows. TPM modulation has been available in the Professional version of Parallels for quite a while already and so adding the feature to the Standard version in light of Windows 11 was an easy move for Parallels. The good news is that the virtual environment Parallels allows you to install Windows 11 on a Mac by simulating the TPM module virtually so that you can install Windows 11 on both Intel and M1 chip Macs.

However, to officially support Windows 11 Apple would have to update macOS in Intel Macs to support TPM and Windows 11 and that seems highly unlikely as Apple is currently discontinuing all Intel Macs in favor of the new M1 chip Macs.

In fact, even many Windows PCs built before 2014 do not have a TPM and will not be able to run Windows 11. Unfortunately, neither Intel nor M1 Macs have a TPM built into the motherboard. TPM 2.0 is built into the motherboard of a computer to ensure the integrity of the operating system’s security. Windows 11 requires support for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0.
Will Windows 11 Run on Mac With Windows 365?.If you are going to pay $1400+ it would make sense to pay a little extra and get double the RAM. RAM should be cheap (different subject for apple) so why skip on it. All my machines have 16GB+ RAM anyway, so to me it makes more sense to sell my machine and wait for a good deal on a 16GB, which I am.
I never liked the idea of swap and I see myself as a power user. You will start to see the system borrowing more swap overtime but it will not exactly slow to a crawl or crash anything. On my 8GB 2018 TB configuration I can run a Logic pro session with 100 tracks and several chrome Tabs. You will see twice the performance on Geekbench with the 2018 model against a 2017 or 2016. 8GB will not be your bottleneck in a lot of cases. People saying they would automatically prioritize 16GB over 8GB RAM over 2 extra newer more efficient cores don't really know what they are saying. It will certainly get the job done for the time being even for things like Logic Pro and coding, or Graphic design, or encoding. No unless you get a really good deal like I did <$1000 or you plan on upgrading in the near future, Apple will likely have a real hardware refresh or new design by 2020-2021.
